Obsessed With “6 Figures”

You have the potential to make a six figure income within six months by joining (Company Name Removed) as an Independent Marketing Representative.

I have google alerts setup for several different MLM companies. Every day I get emails reporting where on the blog-o-sphere these companies are showing up. The report includes a snippet of text around the word to see how its used to judge if clicking the link is worth my time. Recently there has been an abnormal number of references to “join company XYZ and make 6 figures!” This isn’t just from a single company it is across the board.

Why are these people so obsessed with pitching an incomprehensible dream?

For most people the idea of making $100,000+ is ridiculous. According to the Wall Street Journal in 2007 (pre economic meltdown) an individual making $97k a year was in the top 7% of income earners and for an entire households that was top 20%. In 2008 the Census Bureau calculated the median household income in the US was $50,303. I am fairly good at math so I am pretty sure $100,000 is a lot more than $50,000.

The “6 Figure” income claim it not genuine, not truthful and not credible.  The way I see it is telling people they will make double what they are making now creates false expectations and gives them the information they need to make an uninformed decision.

The company and the product could be the greatest thing since sliced bread and because of your lack of credibility they will never know.

The way to build credibility is by being genuine, honest and delivering on your promises. Stop trying to fill peoples heads with fantasy land nonsense find out what’s important to them. What would an extra $500 or $1,000 a month do for you? You don’t know the true objection with out first learning the true desire.

The triple net bottom line is if you want to succeed you need to be credible and to be credible you need to care.

Gyms Have A 95% Failure Rate: Do You Blame The Gym?

Every January gyms fill across America. Packing treadmills with fat, wheezing sweaty people.

By the end of February the gym is empty again and the fat wheezing people are back on the couch watching American Idol.

For every hundred people who join a gym in January ten will still be members 4 months later. Of this ten who go to the gym regularly only 2 will go 2 or more times a week and reach their fitness goals.

If only 2% succeed at reaching their fitness goals should we be blaming the gym?

No. I believe that a vast majority of the population agree that the problem is not the gym or the equipment. The equipment works if you work on it. What is lacking in the 98 people who don’t reach their goal is motivation to actually do what is necessary. Again is that the gyms fault if you stop showing up?

If the gym is not to blame then why do people blame the business model of network marketing for peoples failures if they don’t do anything?

Would You Want Yourself As A Sponsor?

Today Eric Worre at NetworkMarketingPro.com asked a very interesting question “Would I want to be sponsored by me?”

This is a perfect example of why people call network marketing “personal development you get paid for!”

To help you answer this question and focus your attention to make the changes to take you to the top I made a simple worksheet to help you become the sponsor you want to be.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Success in network marketing comes down to building a large number of distributors and customers buying product on a regular basis. The million dollar question is how do you get your team recruiting? You can’t do it for them and you can’t make people do things they don’t really want to do.
As a leader you need to lead by example. If you want your team to recruit you need to be out recruiting. Not everyone will follow your lead but some will. If you are inviting people to business presentations and recruiting your team will grow.
If you are not hustling your team will mimic your inaction.
If you are wondering why your team is not growing look in the mirror and ask your self “Am I being a do it leader?”

How Do You Defeat A Larger Army?

Divide and Conquer!

When you split a large force into smaller pieces the individual pieces become less effective. The same rule holds true with your time.
Time is a limited resource. This is especially true if you are working a full time job while building your business part time. When you take out work, sleep and commuting time you are left with just 2 or 3 hours a day to build your business.
Where so many go wrong is dividing that small window of time between two or three business opportunities. This is taking a limited resource (time) and making it even more limited by dividing it into even smaller and smaller chunks.

Multiple Businesses Create Other Problems

Divided attention. Mastery is the result of repetition. The best way to learn a business presentation is to do it over and over until it becomes second nature and then do it again.

Tiger woods didn’t become the best in the world at the game of golf by taking half of his practice time and go bowling.

Marketing two or more business opportunities leads to distrust and credibility questions with prospects. It is very difficult to tell a prospect with passion and conviction that this is the best opportunity when you are going to tell someone else something different later. What is even worse is when the prospect from business presentation A find out you told prospect B about opportunity C. Kiss your credibility good bye. Both prospects A & B have lots trust and respect, plus both deals are out the window.
If you are currently in multiple business opportunities the best thing you can do for your future success is to pick one and go with it.

The Measure Of A Man

The true measure of a man is not how he acts in the presence of a superior but how they act in the presence of a subordinate.

How To Judge A Leader

Leaders are not judged by how many followers they have. The true measure of a leader is how many leaders they create.

BOP Etiquette

A BOP is a Business Opportunity Presentation where you invite prospects to see a group presentation.

BOP’s help you…

  1. Build credibility
  2. Highlights the professionalism of the business opportunity
  3. Show you are not the only one
  4. Introduce the group and support structure
  5. Start the training process for your new recruits

To make this work everyone needs to be on the same page.

  1. Dress well. You don’t have to be in a suit & tie but it needs to be business casual. Never wear shorts, cutoffs, gym clothes.
  2. Show up 30-45 minutes early. You want to greet your guests. Do not let your guests beat you to the presentation.
  3. DO NOT BE LATE! The BOP will start exactly on time. Starting late looks bad to your prospects, is not professional, and wastes the time of the people who had the courtesy to show up on time.
  4. Introduce your guests to your up-line and the group leaders who are doing the presentation.
  5. The presenter will ask for all the new people to sit in the front and as a rep you will sit in the back.
  6. During the presentation don’t chitchat. It is distracting for the presenter, the guests and doesn’t look professional. Pay attention like it is the first time you have seen it.
  7. When the presentation is over there will be a 15 to 20 minute break to speak with your prospects and sign them up. There will be Training session after the break.

What You Actually Get Paid To Do

There seems to be some miscommunication and faulty information getting passed around about how you get earn money in Network Marketing.
I have read dozens of “Special Reports” and “Insider Secret Guides” about building a profitable MLM business it is very clear to me why people are so confused. After a lot of talk about twitter and facebook and other ways to spend your time they all forget to say none of that is going to directly get you paid!

There are only two activities that you can do that ends with you putting money in your pocket…

  1. Selling product
  2. Recruiting someone who sells product

At the end of the day the business we have chosen is very simple, Move Product – Get Paid.

Are Your Distributers Goals Keeping You Poor?

Having a goal setting session with your new distributors is important. It is how you find their “WHY” their reason for takign the leap of faith that there is a better way and this is it. What happens at that session goes a long way to success of failure.

Are you setting goals that overwhelm and demotivate or empower and motivate?
